spiced red cabbage

All through the long days of summer we consume salads from our garden. The dreary days of witner ar emore suited to this dish, which we used to eat in copious quantities in our newly-wed days in only-just-post-communist Poland. It was especially good after coming in from a walk home from work in the crispy snow.

1kg red cabbage, finely chopped
2 onions, chopped
2 apples, cubed
2t salt
125ml water
125ml red wine
1t mixed spice
100g raisins
2T brown sugar
   Mix all together in a pot and simmer covered for an hour
   Do not overcook!
