playdough

This recipe comes from Starship Children’s Hospital, scribbled down on a scrap of paper during one of our visits there. It never fails. And apart from needing some help with the boiling water, even the youngest children can make it themselves.

3C flour
2T oil
2T cream of tartar
1/2C salt (optional)
1/2 – 1t food colouring
2C boiling water
Put all the ingredients in a large bowl and stir well.
Sprinkle some extra flour on the bench.
Knead the dough.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

Creative mothers add things like glitter, enviro-friendly mothers use tumeric instead of food colouring, arty-farty mothers divide the mix and make four different colours at once. I just make it as is. About twice a year.
